Computing

Our Approach

At Twyford School, our aim is to equip students with the skills needed to navigate and use digital technology with confidence while ensuring they know how to keep themselves safe online. In an increasingly digital world, it’s important for children to be confident with technology, to be digitally literate, and to be cyber-aware.

Our computing curriculum primarily follows the Purple Mash scheme of work. We have tailored the scheme to suit our mixed-age classes, ensuring a logical and cohesive progression of lessons. This structure provides students with opportunities to build new skills while reinforcing previously acquired ones.

Our long-term plan is divided into three focus areas, one for each term; Digital Literacy, Information Technology and Computer Science.  We also begin every year with a focus on Online Safety and this is revisited regularly.

At Twyford, we have sixty Chromebooks that are used not only during computing lessons but also across the wider curriculum. We chose Google as our learning platform because it aligns with the systems used by the secondary schools we feed into. This ensures that the skills students develop here are directly transferable and prepare them for a smooth transition to secondary education and beyond.
